“Unprecedented” has become ubiquitous in everyday conversations surrounding the global pandemic. Very few could have foreseen the unprecedented personal, professional, or economic hardships that the coronavirus brought to the world. However, I believe we are experiencing a time of unprecedented resilience in the human spirit and its aptitude for change. Many of us have not personally experienced the resilience shown during world wars or harsh economic conditions, but we see it now in the courage and ingenuity within the world and our local communities.
As we look now toward the future, I remain hopeful that culture and communities will adapt to a new normal. The office will look different and thoughtful design will be more important than ever. Social spaces will adapt further to support and promote an organization’s mental health and well-being.
I am encouraged by the response of leadership and the creativity of individuals and organizations within our industry to support and combat this global crisis. I hope you find this guide to be a useful tool as we move toward a return to the office.
